Scott was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Gary and Jinny Britton.  He attended Springfield Public Schools and graduated from Parkview High School in 1991. He attended the Law Enforcement Academy at Drury University and became a Certified Peace Officer.

As a southwest Missouri Law Enforcement Officer, Scott devoted his entire career to protecting citizens and providing support to other Law Enforcement agencies throughout Missouri. He started and ended his active-duty career with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. He also worked for the Branson Police Department and the Springfield Public School District as a resource officer. During his time at the GCSO, he worked in Corrections, Patrol and Criminal Investigations. He spent many years working narcotics, both directly for the county and in various assignments at the COMET Drug Task Force. When Scott retired from the GCSO in December of 2013, he had achieved the rank of Lieutenant and was back working in the Criminal Investigations Division.  Scott had an outgoing personality and could talk with anybody, which made him the perfect fit to be Missouri’s Law Enforcement Coordinator for the Mid-States Organized Crime Information Center (MOCIC).  Scott started working at MOCIC after he retired from Greene County in 2013 and remained employed there until he passed away in October of 2019.

In April of 2019, Scott was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.  He courageously battled the disease for nearly seven months before he passed away in late October of that year.  Throughout the entire time Scott was battling, his family, friends and co-workers were right by his side providing him emotional, spiritual and financial support.  It was this support that kept him and his family going during the most challenging time of their lives. After Scott passed away, his family and friends wanted to find a way to keep his memory and legacy alive, which led to the creation of The Scott Britton Memorial Fund, which officially became a Missouri non-profit in November of 2020.

One of the most rewarding “jobs” Scott had, was being a dad to Emily and Lindsay, his two daughters. He was also an awesome stepdad to Jonathan and Maura. In 2008, he married the love of his life, Mandy, who proudly serves as the President of The Scott Britton Memorial Fund.
